INTRODUÇÃO: Insertion in the professional field is multifactorial, and the professional's training institution can be highlighted among the agents that influence success. Outlining the Profile of its graduates helps determine the quality and needs for improvement of medical residency programs. This project aimed to characterize the Profile of graduates, especially of their practical and professional training, by identifying sociodemographic and academic variables of graduates with an analysis of their professional practice.
MÉTODOS E MATERAIS: This was a descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study, with a convenience sample of 31 physicians trained in a Medical Residency Program (MRP) in Mastology since its creation in March 2005, with the last group formed in February 2022, without interruptions in the program due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants were invited by sending an invitation letter by email or WhatsApp® to the questionnaire available online, which could only be accessed after accepting the free and informed consent form.
RESULTADOS E DISCUSSÃO: Through the online questionnaire sent to former residents assessing multiple aspects of the MRP graduates, such as sociodemographic Profile, academic and professional training, the current area of expertise, insertion into oncology healthcare settings, and quality of life was possible. This study provides essential data for assessing the educational quality of the program and the graduate practice in the professional field as well as post-residency professional experience. Most of the mastologists trained by MRP work in highly complex oncological services, present continuous technical and professional improvement, and are personally satisfied with the exercise in the field. This suggests that the MRP provides good quality and up-to-date training and surgical and oncological competencies guaranteeing quality for professionals working in different areas of the field. Maintaining an MRP network is possible, bringing the graduates together and keeping them in contact with the University. This network can promote collaborative research, continuous learning, interactions between graduates and trainees, and collaborative work in training current residents. Also, former residents' feedback provides an accurate assessment of the residency program promoting continuous improvement of current mastology training.
