Curriculum Structure

 

Course 50M - Master's Degree - Public Health

Completion

The minimum and maximum durations for the Epidemiology concentration area of the
Master's course are 12 and 24 months, respectively. To obtain a Master's degree in Public
Health in the area of Epidemiology, the student must complete a total of 32 credits, 32 of
which are compulsory activities and 0 credits are elective activities.


The minimum and maximum durations for the Social Sciences in Health concentration area
of the Master's course are 12 and 24 months, respectively. To obtain a Master's degree in
Collective Health in the area of Social Sciences in Health, the student must complete a total
of 20 credits, 20 of which in compulsory activities and 0 credits in elective activities.

Evaluation and Recognition

The Master's course in Collective Health received grade 5 in the CAPES evaluation for the
2013/2016 quadrennium and was recognized by MEC Ordinance 609 of 14/03/2019,
published in the D.O.U. of 18/03/2019.

Requirements for Obtaining the Degree

Completion

Fulfill the total number of credits as specified in the course completion and obtain a minimum
performance coefficient of 2.5 from the 2nd term onwards.

Qualifying Exam

Requirements for the Qualifying Exam
1.    have completed the credits required by the program;

2.    have passed the English Language Proficiency Exam;

3.    have received an opinion from the Ethics Committee. 

Scientific Production


Submit at least one scientific product resulting from your research for publication in the
appropriate media by the time your dissertation is approved.  

Dissertation/Thesis Defense

  1. Have taken all the compulsory courses;
  2. Have the research project approved by the Ethics Committee;
  3. Have passed the Qualifying Exam at least 60 days before the defense date;
  4. Have proficiency in a foreign language;
  5. For the master's degree: have fulfilled the requirements of course SC421;
  6. Attend 4 defenses, duly proven by sending in the form filled in and signed by the Chairman of
    the Defense Board;
  7. Prove the acceptance of 1 article for publication and submit annual reports on scientific
    production.
  8. Submit a Library Report on the verification of plagiarism in the dissertation or thesis;

Course 90D - Doctorate - Public Health

Integralization

The minimum and maximum durations for the Epidemiology concentration area of the
Doctorate course are 24 and 48 months, respectively. To obtain the title of Doctor of Public
Health in the area of Epidemiology, the student must complete a total of 06 credits, of which
06 are compulsory activities and 0 credits are elective activities.

The minimum and maximum durations for the Social Sciences in Health concentration area
of the PhD course are 24 and 48 months, respectively. To obtain the title of Doctor of Public
Health in the area of Social Sciences in Health, the student must complete a total of 12
credits, 12 of which in compulsory activities and 0 credits in elective activities.


The minimum and maximum durations for the Doctorate in Health Policy, Planning and
Management are 24 and 48 months, respectively. To obtain the title of Doctor of Public
Health in the area of Health Policy, Planning and Management, the student must complete a
total of 12 credits, 12 of which are compulsory activities and 0 credits in elective activities.

The PhD course in Collective Health received grade 5 in the CAPES evaluation for the

3.    Have the Ethics Committee's opinion approved and entered into the system.

Scientific Production

At least one scientific product resulting from your research has been accepted for publication
in the appropriate media up to the time of the thesis defense.  

Dissertation/Thesis Defense

  1. Have taken all the compulsory courses;
  2. Have the research project approved by the Ethics Committee;
  3. Have passed the Qualifying Exam;
  4. Have proficiency in a foreign language;
  5. Have fulfilled the requirements of course SC521;
  6. Attend 4 defenses, duly proven by sending in the form filled in and signed by the Chairman of
    the Defense Board;
  7. Prove the approval of 1 article for publication and submit annual reports on scientific
    production;
  8. Submit a Library Report on the verification of plagiarism in the thesis;
  9. Incoming students who come from areas other than Collective Health/Public Health must
    take the compulsory common Master's subjects (SC385, SC312 and SC422).
