Margherita Terenzani, an Italian medical student from the University of Padua, completed an internship in August at the Surgery Department of the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) at Unicamp. During her time in Brazil, she was also supported by the Local Coordination of Internships and Experiences (CLEV). Reflecting on her experience, she shared:

“These four weeks of exchange have been an amazing experience. As my first time traveling outside of Europe, this exchange gave me the opportunity to discover a reality very different from mine and pushed me out of my comfort zone. I met incredible people, developed deep friendships both inside and outside the Hospital de Clínicas, and received invaluable help.

Academically, I had the chance to participate in lectures, seminars, skill labs, and much more, which boosted my confidence in surgical specialties. Every professor I met was exceptionally kind, making me feel immediately part of the team, and even invited me to extracurricular activities. Although there was a language barrier at times, we always found ways to communicate effectively, and it never posed a significant issue.

CLEV’s social program ensured everything ran smoothly from the very first day, and I’m deeply grateful for the amazing people I encountered. I met passionate, friendly individuals who showed me the best of Brazil. I want to thank everyone for this wonderful experience — I had so much fun!”
